Just a reminder that the Terry Fox Run is this Wednesday, September 28th at 1:00pm. Parents are welcome to join in the walk/run if they wish. Pictures of the Terry Fox run will be posted on the blog later this week if you are unable to make it!

Please remember to have your child record the days of school on their 100 chart after each day of school.

In addition to our home reading books, students now know how to use Tumblebooks on our school computers. This is a great way to access thousands of books online with different authors reading favourite books. I have added the link to the blog.

http://www.parkland.lib.sk.ca/

It can be accessed through the parkland regional library. You will have to scroll down to selected databases and select the out of library for Tumblebooks. It will take you to the tumblebooks website and you will have access to all of their books! Hopefully this will continue to add excitement and variety to your child's reading!

Welcome Back to School!

The Grade One and Two students have already completed 3 days of school! Students are adjusting well to our new classroom and making new friendships with new classmates! Today Home Reading went home for the first day. Students should be reading to an adult each night, recording the title of the book into their Home Reading recording book and having the adult who listened to them read sign it before returning it to school the following school day.

Grade One students also came home with 9 sounds of the week. We will be working with these sounds all week in class. Practice these sounds with your child each night by having them tell you words with this sound in it or recognizing words where that letter is present. We will have our very first sound test on Friday, September 9th.

Sounds of the week are:
Bb
Gg
Mm
Ff
Ww
Cc
Aa
Ee
Ss

Grade Two students came home with spelling words today as well. Words were copied with their agenda message, as well as with their spelling sentence worksheet. Spelling sentence writing will help improve reading, as well as writing, so it is important that children are challenged when making sentences. As the year goes on, student's sentences should be increasing in detail. The first spelling test of the year will be on Friday, September 9th.

Spelling words for this week are:
run
as
not
has
him
red
up
if
yes
it
us
job

Students should be continuing to fill in the 100 chart after each day of school. Today was the third day of school.

Just a reminder to send a water bottle with your child to use throughout the day to cut down on the amount of instructional time lost due to water breaks, etc.

Thank you for sending back any forms that have gone home in the past few days. Please remember to return the blog form to school if you have not already done so, as we will have some pictures to post very shortly!
