Elf on a Shelf

Our class had a very special visitor arrive in our classroom today! Santa sent an elf, which we named Jack Frost, who will keep watch of the students all week and report back to Santa. He seems to get quite lonely when we are outside for recess or gone to the library or the art room. Watch the blog this week to see what Jack Frost is up to while we're away!

Yesterday the Grade 1 and 2 students were invited to the Springside Senior's Drop In Centre for the afternoon. The students had such a great time there and were asking to go back already. We took our power of ten cards and each student was paired with a senior who they taught how to play faceoff, ten up and salute. These games increase awareness of numbers to ten and help in learning addition facts to ten. After teaching, learning and playing math games, the seniors taught the children how to play shuffleboard. We wrapped up the afternoon with some visiting with our friends while having juice and cookies. We had such a great time at the Seniors centre and would like to thank everyone who came out to spend time with us there.

Welcome Back to the 2013-2014 School Year!

Welcome to our classroom blog parents, students and families. We are excited to share school events and classroom activities with you on our blog. Together, as a class, we will try to share what's happening on our blog at least once a week. I will also share school events on the blog, as well as any words of the week once we begin them.

We are counting the days of school up to 100! The grade one and two students are currently on the 15th day of school!

This week is another busy week. We will be celebrating Terry Fox in our school this Friday, September 27th in the afternoon. The school will participate in a run, as well as learn some things about Terry. We will also be having our September assembly this same afternoon. Students of the month will be regognized at this assembly. Stay tuned to hear about our first star for the month of September!

Thank you to everyone who completed the pre-timeline homework. We are going to start working on them today. The students are very excited! If you have not sent your child's back yet, please complete it and send it back tomorrow as they will be behind in the assignment if they wait any longer!

We have an exciting week this week! We have began a new experiment in science - watch for pictures!
